As a final element in your portfolio, reflect on what you learned about writing throughout the course and what you learned about yourself as a writer. What are your strengths? What are your next steps? What are your future goals as a writer? Did you meet your goals in taking this course? How do you imagine yourself evolving as a writer?

Throughout this course, I learned that writing is not just about getting ideas down, but about shaping them through revision. Before, I would usually focus on finishing an assignment and making small edits, but now I understand how important it is to go back and rethink structure, clarity, and tone. I learned that strong writing comes from multiple drafts and being willing to change things, not just fix grammar.

One of my strengths as a writer is being able to come up with clear ideas and realistic topics, especially ones that relate to real life, like social media and mental health. I also think I’m good at keeping my writing simple and easy to understand. However, I’ve realized that I sometimes rely too much on explaining instead of showing, and I can repeat ideas without noticing. This is something I worked on improving, especially in my short story and feature article.

My next steps as a writer are to continue developing a more natural and engaging style, and to focus more on showing emotion through detail and dialogue rather than directly stating it. I also want to work on varying my sentence structure more and making my writing feel less like an assignment and more like something people would actually want to read.

I do think I met my goals in this course. I’ve become more confident in my writing and more aware of the revision process. In the future, I see myself continuing to improve by practicing different types of writing and focusing on making my work more polished and meaningful. Overall, this course helped me grow as a writer and understand that writing is a process, not just a final product.
